For nearly 140 years, the dedicated volunteers of the Southold Fire Department have answered the call to protect lives and property in our community. We are proud to serve the residents and visitors of Southold, New York.
The Southold Fire Department was established in January 1886 when residents of Southold Village assembled in Belmont Hall to address the critical matter of fire protection in their community. They created the Fireman's Aid Association and raised initial funds of $250.
On February 13, 1886, two companies were formally established: Protection Engine Company No.1, led by Foreman H. H. Huntting, and Eagle Hook and Ladder Company No.1, with H. G. Booth as Foreman.
In 1927, Packard Hose Company No.2 was formed by younger members. Today, the Southold Fire Department serves approximately 6,000 residents across 28 square miles, responding to nearly 800 calls annually.
The Southold Fire Department is comprised of three historic fire companies, each with its own proud tradition of service.
